Empathy Tests-Per. 3

Journal about your results from the online tests you took in class. Were they accurate? Are you surprised with the results?

  1. On the empathy quotient, I scored an average 49. I thought that this was slightly inaccurate, because I consider myself a very empathetic person. On the BBC fake smile test, I scored 18/20, and I think this is accurate, since I tend to be able to spot if people are really smiling. On the final test, the Mind in the Eyes, I scored a 29, and I think that this is pretty accurate. I'm not surprised with any of the results, since all of the scores seem pretty accurate.

  2. After taking the empathy quizzes, I realized that I am in between not very empathetic and the average amount. The Empathy quotient told me that my empathy score was 41, the average for most guys. When detecting fake smiles, i recieved a 17/20, not amazing but not horrible empathy. On the last test, the eyes, I receieved a 24. The website states that 22-30 is normal/average range. These activities proved to me that I have average empathy. The tests were intersting and taught me what it takes to be very empathetic.

  3. The results from the tests I took in class was: Empathy - 62, Spotting Fake Smiles - 17/20, Mind in the Eyes - 26. I think that my scores were accurate becasue I think it reflects how I am as a person. I was surprised at my score for spotting the fake smile because I didnt think that score would come out as good. Overall the results were accurate.

  4. I scored on the empathy test, a round score of 35. However, I think this is not accurate because I think I am a very empathetic person, I just don't sympathize with people. I can understand how someone feels, I just don't do anything about it. Feeling for someone is not the same as helping them. I think a lot of people confuse the two. On the face test, I missed 4 faces. That's because people are decieving and can fake a good smile once in a while (that rhymes!). On the eye test, I scored a nice score of 30. I only missed 6 eyes. That really surprised me because I thought I wasn't good at reading eyes, which shows my high levels of empathy, thought I don't tend to sympathize easily.

  5. On the empathy quotient, I scored lower than I thought I would have, 36. In my opinion, I am an empathetic person, but I guess not!
On the fake smile test, I got 18 out of 20! I thought I wasn't going to get that many right! I don't normally pay attention to if someone is using a fake smile or not, but I think I'm going to start paying more attention to that from now on.
On the last test, the Mind in the Eye one, I scored 24. It was in the average range, which is good.
I think out of all the tests, the results I found most surprising was the Empathy Quotient one.

  6. On the empathy quotient, I got a 56. I thought it was pretty accurate, because I'm pretty empathetic. On the fake smile test, I scored a 16/20, which is good, because I can usually tell when people are fake smiling, but not all the time. On the eye test, I scored a 27, and that seems about right. I can usually read what the eyes are saying, and when I talk to people, I almost always look into their eyes. I believe that all of the results were about accurate for me.

  7. With my test results on the empathy tests, I believe that my tests were maybe a little bit innacurate. The first test said that I was a little bit below average on being empathetic, and I think that I am more average and higher than my score showed. On the other hand, both my other tests I think were more accurate and a better representation. Im not as good at reading faces as I thought I was.

  8. After completing the tests, I reassured myself that I have low empathy. On the empathy test, I received a 29, which is well below the average for a male. On the facial expressions test, I did pretty well with a score of 16/20. On the eye identification, I got a a 25, which is within the average of 22-30. I knew when taking these tests that I was not a empathetic person. If one thing can be learned from this, I should probably try to become more empathetic towards others.

  9. After taking the first empathy quiz, my score was low, a 31, which is really surprising to be because I cry during movies a lot, my friends ask me for advice, and when I make decisions, I take into consideration other people's feelings. In the fake smile test, I got a 17/20, which is feel is more accurate than the other one, because it is seems about average, which is what I feel I am. In the eye test, I got a 27, which is also average. The tests were interesting, but I'm not sure if they were acurate.

  10. The test results for me seemed lower than what I had originally thouhght. For the Empath I scored a 28. For Spotting Fake Smiles-14, and for Mind in the Eyes- 23. I seem to be low-average compared to others in all the tests. It seems that I am not a very empathetic person, and I am average at spotting fake smiles. I thought that I would have done better on the Empathy test, but the other two I found nearly accurate.

  11. I think that my results were actually very accurate, at least from my perspective. It may not seem right to some poeple, but to myself, my friends (close friends), and my family my results make sense. On the first emapthy test, I got a 51, on the fake smile, I got a 19/20 and on the last one, I got a 25. I actually am really good at understanding how people are feeling and knowing what I personally can do to help them. Even if people don't act mad, upset, angry, etc. I can still tell. These tests were also WAY fun!!! The accuracy was very amazing.

  12. I scored overall pretty empathetic. For the first test i scored a 50. This is a little above average for men. For the fake smile i scored 16 out of 20. For the final eye test i scored 30/36.

  13. According to the three test's taken, I am a fairly empathetic person. I scored very highly on the first test with a somewhat averag score of 49, a 15 out of 20 on the reading faces test, and a 24 on the eye test. As it turns out, I am the worst at reading peoples faces than I thought I would be.

  14. I thought the empathy test was farly acurate but I think it is unfair if you score low it says you have autism or aspergers. I expected to score low but not that low. I also wonder if your empathy is conected to reading expresions since I could not read peoples smile or eyes but I don't really spend alot of time devolping that trait since I'm not empathetic.

  15. On the empathy test I scored a 42. I feel that I am more empathetic than that and that this test is not completely accurate. On the fake smile test i got a 15- which is okay it's not the best. I think in person though I can tell if someone is fake smiling or real smiling. The eyes test was not my best. I scored a 21 and i feel that is not accurate either. In person i feel most of the time, but not always, i can tell what someones eyes re saying. I don't think this these tests are very accurate but they were fun to take.

  16. After taking these empathy tests I have found out that I definitly need to work on empathy. I am average according to my test scores; however, I feel like it will be an important skill to learn for the furure. These tests have definitley helped me relize what I need to work on and how I can increase my empathic abilities.

  17. The results to my three empathy tests were interesting. On the Empathy test, I scored a 56 which I found to be very interesting because I do not see myself as that much of an empathetic person. I did not find the test to be accurate. However, I do agree with the smile test because I was average and i was not confident to do well. This was similar to the eye test. I scored average once again and I was also in agreement because i find it more difficult to read peoples eye expressions. Those were the two that were less interesting than the first because the first one seemed to be less accurate.

  18. The score I got on the empathy test was a 35 out of 80, I was a little surprised on this one, I thought I would have scored a little higher. On the test where you had to determine the fake or genuine smile a 20 out of 20, I thought I would miss a few, but was a little a surprised at the perfect score. Like in A whole new mind when there is the fake smile of Dan Pink, he says to cover up everything but the eyes, and that is what I did and that really helped me. The third one, I got 30 correct out of 36, I thought most of the women in this test were difficult to determine because they either looked the same or their face was mainly blacked out. These tests showed me that i am good at judging people's facial expressions, but need to work on my empathy for feelings.

  19. As I did the empathy tests and got my results back on all three of them I realized that I was a little bit below average. I think that I need to make a little more conscious effort into empathy and it is something that I need to work on. When I took the fake smile test and the eye test it took a lot of focus to determine what it was that they were really feeling. It was an effort that I don't tend to make in my daily encounters with friends and strangers.

  20. I scored a 54 on the empathy test which surprised me because I do not really view myself as an "above average" empathetic person, but after thinking about it the results made more sense and I do think they were accurate. The smile test was just a fail in general. I scored a 15/20 which I am not surprised at because I just want everyone to be happy and their smiles to be genuine so my brain just assumes that their smile is genuine. On eye test I got a 28 which I thought was accurate. On many of the questions that I missed, I was trying to decide between the one I chose and the correct answer which I thought was interesting. Overall I learned a lot by taking these tests and thought that the results were very accurate

  21. I was very surprised that my score was 19 on the first test that we took. I didn’t really feel that the test was very accurate, or it could have been that I did not answer the questions as best as I could. I thought that I was more sympathetic. On the second test I got 15 out of 20 of the facial expressions correct and it seemed more accurate. This test was easier because you could see their eyes and those kind of gave the person away. On the eye test it was very difficult to determine what the people were feeling. A lot of the women looked the same and it seemed like they were expressing the same emotions.

  22. I have never really thought of myself to be real touchy feely. Daniel Pink explained that that wasn't what empathy was all about and there is more to it. I realize that but like a predicted, i only got a 36 on the empathy test which is below average by far. On the smiley face one however, I assumed I would do well. I came in cocky and I came out shocked. I only got 11 out of 20. I felt like I totally failed. But there's nothing I can do about it. I did do very well on the eye emotion one though. I got 31 out of 36 which was better than most of the class mates I talked to. I was satisfied with this because [not to be cocky] I do above average on most things. I am a very competitive person in general and I aim for the best for almost everything. But I was a little thrown off by the smiley face one because I thought that I can read faces pretty well, maybe people just fake smile at me all the time...

  23. On the first test, the empathy test, I scored a 42 which is the average for males. I would have thought this would be a higher score because I think I have an above average sense of empathy. On the second test, which was discerning whether the smiles were genuine or fake, I scored a 12 out of 20 which, based on other scores I heard, was not very good. I thought I would at least do a little better than a 12. On the final test, judging emotions based on eyes, I scored a 26, which was the exact average. This didn't suprise me as I didn't think I was very good at this, but not bad either.

  24. After taking the first empathy test, I scored a 53, which I felt was about accurate because I think that I am pretty empathetic. On the second test where we were to decide which smiles were genuine and which smiles were fake, I thought that it was really hard. I tried to figure it out at first, but my guesses were not very good. I didn't do very well and got an 11 out of 20. This wasn't really that suprising, because I didn't really have a method for finding the fake ones versus the genuine ones. I think that it would have been more helpful if I had been looking at the expression in their eyes. For the last test where we tried to tell what emotions people had based on their eyes, I got a 22 out of 36 which was just below average. It seemed like a lot of the women had the same expression in the tests, but it probably would have been easier to tell the difference between them if you could look at their whole face and then focus on their eyes.

  25. For the empathy test, I scored a 54. This is above average and what I expected because I feel that I am very empathetic. For the fake smiles, I scored 19 out of 20. I used the eyes to tell whether or not a smile was genuine and it worked fairly well. Some eyes were deceiving though. This also shows how well one can tell how another person is feeling. For the last test I got 25 out of 36. This was average and slightly surprised me. I can usually tell through people's expressions what they are feeling and I did not do too well with this test.

  26. For the empathy quotient test, I scored a 40 which was higher than a lot of other guys in the class. It was also about average as the test stated that average was 42 for a male. On the fake smiles test, i predicted 17 out of thhe 20 correctly. I predicted this from the start, but after seeing the smiles, I was expecting a much lower score. For the eyes test, I scored 25 out of 36. I can usually tell what emotion people are feeling, but I guess I need the whole face because it was much harder with just a cropped picture of the eyes.

  27. I scored high on every single test. I was surprised to realize that I had more empathy then I thought. It was very interesting to see that I am able to presieve things and use my empathy to get information.

  28. I scored rather low on the empathy test which didn't really surprise me. I don't think that I am that empathetic of a person, so I thought i was score low.

On the smile test i did really well. I got an 18 out of twenty. Personally, I thought that test was way easier than I thought it would be.

The eye test was really hard for me, because I cannot tell emotions just from looking at peoples eyes in real life, I have to look at their whole facial expression, so just seeing the pictures of the eyes (which I thought were blurry) was hard for me to determine their expression.

  29. I scored fairly low, my number was in the 30s. I also found that this is low even for men. I was surprised by this because I always thought of myself as fairly empathetic and I could walk in anothers shoes.

On the smile test I also did poorly. I scored only 12 out of 20. I think that I need to start looking at others facial expressions and be more aware of the people around me.

I did very well on the eye test. I think that when you look at somebodies eyes you can tell almost anything; mood, interest level, intensity etc.
