One design idea that I did was read a design magazine. I read O Magazine. The Design of it was good because there were many pictures/ads. of outdoor design (backyard) and and indoor design (home design). The second activity that I participate in is be choosy. I feel like I am somewhat choosy with my clothes. I am not like all the other girls out there that just wear shirts that says holister or abercrombie in huge letters across your chest. Oh yes because that is so attrative. You don't need to advertise where you by your clothes from. No one really cares where you shop.
For the design portfolio, I chose Channel Your Annoyance and Be choosy. For channel your annoyance, I had to write a letter to a company. I had to write a letter to the Things Remembered Company. They were were the company that made my golf mechanical pencil. Although I thought of many great ways to fix the pencil. I don't know if the company will ever take my advice or not but if they do it will make for a much better product. As for the be choosy, I can relate to that once again through golf. Putters are something that you don't always have to have the newest or the best. A putter can get better with age, but it also doesn't always have to be a name brand. Design as far as putters go is about quality, not the name on the putter.
For the design portfolio I chose to participate in the participate in the third industrial revolution and the be choosy. For Daniel Pink's participate in the third industrial revolution I did as he had suggested, I created my own font. I created a small size font with no curved lines. All the lines were straight and it was sort of like a diamond font. Instead of and O it would look like a diamond and the same concept applied to all other curves like "r", "n", and "s" etc. For the second activity, be choosy, I chose to apply this to clothes. The stereotype for high school boy clothing is athletic shorts and a T shirt; however, I don't enjoy to wear stuff like that. Instead, for some reason, I like to wear polos and cargo shorts. So for the be choosy I wore what I wanted to as opposed to what the stereotypical male high school student would wear.
For the design portfolio, I chose to participate in the third industrial revolution, and be choosy. For the third industrial revolution, I designed some Nike shoes. The shoes were Air Jordan high tops with a navy swoosh and white and gray accents. I really enjoyed designing the shoes because I made what I wanted to see in a shoe. For the be choosy, I used my couch as an example. My couch is probably about 4 months old, and it is 1,000 times more comfortable now than it was 4 months ago. Over time, the spots I usually sit in broke in, and became more comfortable to sit on. Not only does the couch endure time, it improves as well.
For my design portfolio, I chose to participate in the "Third Industrial Revolution" and "Be Choosy". For the "Third Industrial Revolution", I used the NIKEid on the computer and created my own shoes. It was really cool to be able to design something on your own and make it the way that you think it should be. I also did the portfolio project "Be Choosy". Everywhere I go, I always try to be myself in everything I do. Something that I always have on wherever I go is high socks. I don't really have a reason for liking them except for the reason that they make me feel like myself in them. I think Daniel Pink makes a great point when he says that, "Choose things becasue they delight you, not because they impress others." I really enjoy that becasue it tells you to be yourself and to not care what others think of you. This is a goal that every person should try to reach in their lifetime.
Design portfolio- For the first activity I did "Be Choosy". I feel like I am picky about what shoes I wear for running. Though it may have a great design, it could end up hurting you in the long run if you don't have the support you need. Also, for my second activity, I did "Read a Design Magazine". I read Good Housekeeping, which reviews products and brands. In one particular magazine, it talked about the variety of designs for refrigerators and what the pros and cons were for each one. It is a good magazine to look at if you want to compare brands, or see how efficient a product is.
For the Design activities I chose to do the "Be Choosy" and the section "Third Industrial Revolution". For "Be Choosy" I decided to look at the hippie clothes I have from the store by my aunt's house. I really love the crazy dresses and cool shirts. I love that I am the only one that has them. Even though lots of girls choose not to wear things that I do, I love having different clothes and shoes, like my hippie boots! For the "Third Industrial Revolution" I went on Vans.com and made my own custom Vans shoes. They were mostly blue and white. They were shoes that I made myself so I thought they were really cool. Because I designed them myself, nobody else has them, which is also pretty cool.
I tried the "Third Industrial Revolution" and "Read a Design Magazine" sections for my design activities. I spent forever on the Nike website, tinkering with all sorts of shoes before finally deciding that the black, dark green, dark blue, and white Nike Shox with my name on them were my favorite. It was really fun to create something that I could actually wear and that no one else would have. For my second activity I read Real Simple. I thought it was just going to be another house design magazine; but it turned out to be really interesting because it had articles on clothes, interior design, goals for the spring, and, best of all, food. It was a nice change to look at the variety of things in the magazine and the realistic ideas people can actually use to help make things easier around the house.
For the design portfolio I did the "Third Industrial Revolution" and "Be Choosy". For the "Third Revolution" I went on to the Nike website and designed my own shoes. They were Nike Shox with a light blue base, pink overlay, a white swoosh, light blue laces, light pink lining, and my name on it. It is so cool to design something like that, because unless there is some creeper out there with your same taste and same name, then they are only yours. It was also really cool because you can choose the size of each shoe and the width. For be choosy I looked at some of my jewelry. Alot of people have sapphire earrings and gold necklaces, and jewish star necklaces, but I like mine best. The sapphire earrings I have are real and real gold, and they were my moms so that is pretty special too. I just recently got a necklace that was my grandmas and it is real gold too, and it meanslife in Hebrew. My Jewish star necklace is also very pretty because it is silver and also has opal in it which is my birth stone. My jewelry is really pretty and unique.
For my portfolio I chose to participate in the third industrial revolution, and be choosy. To participate in the third industrial revolution, I went to Nike id and I customized several different types of shoes and even put my own messages on the back. Most were orange and blue (Florida Gators) and some were gold and black (Arapahoe). I also customized sunglasses at Oakley.com. Being choosy ties in a lot with baseball equipment. When you choose a glove you can't think about "will this look cool on the field." You have to think about performance and fit. It can take vigorous shopping to find a glove of your liking.
For my design portfolio, I chose to "participate in the third industrial revolution" and "Put it on a Table". For "Put it on a Table", I used an old baseball that one of my teams signed. It makes me happy thinking about all the fun I've had over the years playing baseball and how the game has made me a better person. When I touch it, I think of my days on they mound when i would get my grip on the soft leather. When I smell it, I smile at the familiar smell of the game. When I see it, I look at the names and think of all the people I've met playing baseball. Baseball is a beautifully designed game.
When I participated in the third industrial revolution, I went to Nike id and customized my own shoe. I made it red and black because that combination represents power in my eye. When I designed my shoe,I used Robin Williams' method of C-R-A-P-ifying. My shoe turned out great!
For the design portfolio project I decided to “Be Choosy” and “Channel Your Annoyance”. For the”Be Choosy” option I am using my soccer cleats. With soccer cleats, the best kind is the ones that are made with real kangaroo leather. The kangaroo leather is great because quickly after you start wearing the shoes, they will form perfectly to your feet. For me, I can only wear Adidas soccer cleats because I wear normal ankle socks under my soccer socks. This makes me have to rely on the shoe company that produces the widest cleats. Adidas also makes very good cleats. For the “Channel Your Annoyance” portion I decided to write to the Rubbermaid Company. They have great products, but with their broom and dust pans, the dust pan never stays attached to the broom. So I decided to contact them suggesting a new design where the dust pan has a tighter grip on the broom. This will be more convenient and possibly more visually appealing.
I participated in put it on a table and be choosy. For put it on a table I put my grey hat with the ear flaps on the table. It makes me think of Arapahoe swim season. This wasn't the greatest time of my life, but my hat brings back good memories of spending time with my best friend Abby, being the team slackers, and all the inside jokes we made. This hat always kept my head/ears warm when I was walking in and out of the swimming pool whether it was 5:30 in the morning or 5:30 at night. The fuzzy white fabric on the inside is soft and warm. The ear flaps kept my hair from freezing when I was walking with wet hair in the bitter cold. My hat is one of my favorite things to wear because I like how it looks and it is comfortable and warm. For be choosy I am choosy about the furniture in our house. We used to have an old chair in our family room that was super comfy. My mom bought a new chair that was better looking than my favorite chair but not nearly as comfortable. I refuse to sit in the new chair because I like my old chair better and I won't let my mom give the old one away. Although it's arms are all torn up and it doesn't match the room I still like it much better.
For my two portfolios, i chose 'Read Design Magazines' and, like most other, 'Be Choosy.' For Read Design Magazines, I chose to read a couple of the gardening magazines my parents have around the house. But, as i hate yardwork, i soon tired of those. Instead I looked at some photography magazines I have collected (such as Time Magazine's 100 top photographs). though this is not probably the most 'design-y' magazine, photography IS design because the way things are laid out in a photo (ie where the person or subject is, colors or patterns in the photo, at what angle the sun is at, corresponding shadows, and such...) is very much reletive in both photography and design. For choosy I will use my tall boots as an example (tall boots are black shiny boots that one wears to a horse show). I got my tall boots three years ago, and as you can imagine, are way too small for my feet by now, but they were, until a couple months ago, my favorite pair of shoes. Why I chose to use my tall boots as an example is because, like others have pointed out above me, older things can very well be better than brand new. tall boots take a long time to break in, but once you do, they are rediculously comfortable.
For one of my design activities I chose to do the "Third Industrial Revolution" and chose to design a shield. I designed a shield because me and my younger brother have sword fights therefore designed a shield so I would have an edge. I used a lid to a cardboard box as the center and added on two flattened out Caprisun boxes to maximize my protection.
As for my other design project I chose to do "Put It on a Table" what I chose to put on my table is this as I like to call a "blow-horn." Whenever I see this blow-horn I think of the great adventures of my 8th grade trip to DC. To be honest that is all the use I have for it. When I look at the blow-horn I see how it was crafted then from a cows horn and I enjoy it's authentic appearance. This blowhorn is smooth to the touch all around. However this does not apply to any other sense because it has no smell, taste, and makes no noise without Josh May. The only sensory connection I have made is by sight, which triggered my memories.
For my Design Portfolio I decided to read a design magazine and participate in the third industrial revolution. Instead of going out to find a magazine I just went to the website of the magazine, Real Simple. I learned that the magazine is not just targeted at professional designers, but instead has a lot of interesting articles about things with good design. To participate in the third industrial revolution, I decided to create my own font. It ended up not really looking like my handwriting because I don't write the same every time, but it was fun to be able to make something new.
For my two design activites I chose "Third Industrial Revolution" and "Channel Your Annoyance". For "Third Industrial Revolution" I would like to take the example of my costimized converse. I made them myself on converse.com, and they arrived a few weeks after I made them. They are purple, blue, orange, and green splatter. They also have black rubber and laces. For "Channel Your Annoyance" I chose a water bottle from Starbucks. My moms water bottle, which has a straw that whistles. It isn't just a little whistle, it is a loud obnoxious noise that hurts your ears. We have exchanged it to see if it was just the bottle, but they all seem to whistle. So I am writing to Starbucks about this annoying design.
For my design activities, I did the "Third Industrial Revolution" and "Put it on a table." My pointe shoes are very unique to me. I have a very precise size I had to order (which happens to be 7 xx) and a model that is great for my foot. The shoes are actually molded to the shape of my feet- or rather will be, if UPS will ever actually deliver them. The ribbons have elastic in them and the toe pads are two-tone. If anyone on earth has the same model shoe in the same size with the same accessories, I would honestly be shocked. And for the Put it on a table, I chose my favorite hat from my cousin. It totally brought me back to when she gave it to me! I love the bar code on the side and it fits my head great. It is also a nice little reminder to keep her in my thoughts since she is 5,000 miles away.
For my two design activites I choose "Third Industrial Revoltion" and "Be Choosy". For "Third Industrial Revoltion" I created my own font. Each of the letters were rather large and bubbly. But they were also very neat, unlike my own handwriting. For "Be Choosy" I chose jewlery. I always wear the same bracelte from my grandma. I thought it was very important what Daniel Pink said "Choose things becasue they delight you, not because they impress others. And never let things be more important then your family, friends, and your own spirt." My bracelte is created of charms that apply to my life. Each charm is from my friends and family and help show a bit of who I am.
For my design portfolio I completed Put It on a Table and Be Choosy. For Put it on a Table the object that holds a special place in my heart is my first pair of pointe shoes. When I look at my pointe shoes I think about the first time ever wearing them. Although they hurt like heck, pointe shoes are amazing and a feeling you cannot experience unless you wear them. This object triggers my senses in many ways. The smell is not so great from wearing them all the time and the look of them is definitely not brand new! I hear the pointe shoes make a small popping noise when I roll down from being on pointe and I honestly have never tried to taste them. For Be Choosy, I have always dreamed about having a nice house with nice furniture. This has not been a dream to impress others or show off, just to spend time with my family on our fabulous couch.
The activities I choose were: Channel your annoyance and put it on the table. One object that annoys me a bunch in my house is my computer (in more detail my processor). I’m a person that likes to build computers, and overall my computer is great, but my processor isn’t. It basically likes to get super hot when playing games with maxed out settings and shut down the computer. I’ve spent lots of money trying to improve the problem and it doesn’t work. So instead of fixing the surrounding is to better the design. The best way to improve this is to make it that it can tolerate high temperatures when under high stress.
The item I’m putting on the table are my shoes. These make me think of all the things I’ve done in them and I question how there aren’t crapped out enough to be in the garbage. I’ve had them for almost a year and I’ve done a lot of high impact things in them. With my five senses I: see them on my feet, and there together okay. Hear them hit the ground when I walk. Taste….. No thank you. Smell a plain smell, no stinky foot smell. And touch, more like feel my foot still comfortably in the shoe. The two senses I can relate to are sight and touch. I can see all the activity the shoes have gone through and can feel them as well, Past present or future.
The activities that I chose to do were Participate in the "Third Industrial Revolution" and Be Choosy. In Participate in the "Third Industrial Revolution", I designed baseball cleats on Nikeid.com. This was a very interesting experience. I got to build my own shoe and color it the exact way I want it, perfectly personalizing my clothing my way. The Nikeid idea appeals to me because I can sport my preferences in my own unique, artistic way. This idea is excellent for Nike because they are allowing everyone to be their own designers, instead of a select few, which Daniel Pink emphasizes "A Whole New Mind". In my other portfolio activity, Be Choosy, I decided to wear clothes that appealed to me and not others for the weekend. For instance, I wore a San Antonio Spurs Tim Duncan jersey around for one day. Every single person within Denver hates Tim Duncan and the San Antonio Spurs with the exception of a few. You can guess the awful jeers and even threats said to me, but I still enjoyed wearing that jersey more than the expected Hollister or Abercrombie shirt. I got to express my views and opinions through clothing which gave me a sense of empowerment and individualism.
For my Design Profile the activities I choe were, "Read a design magazine" and "Participateinthe 'Third Industrial Revolution'". While skimming through Elle Decor magazine, there were many photosof different designed rooms both in and out. Each separate picture of a room ahd a different style and design to it. Looking at the pictures made designing look so easy, but it's only when you have the prominent right brain to help. Though, aside from looking at many pictures in a design magazine, I also went to Converse.com (under Riley's suggestion) and designed my own shoe, this sparked the creative side of my mind, in which I could create something that was to my interest and something I was able to create myself. So, whether it was looking through a magazine or design a shoe, my creativity was at work in trying to see the beauty of design.
For my design portfolio I chose to participate in "Being Choosy" and "Read a Design Magazine". My sister and i recently went shopping. We were trying to decide what the "in" style at the moment, so we knew what to buy. After thinking, we decided to just get what we liked. Instead of following the latest trend we decided to get what we wanted. The design magazine I read was O. It was full of new designs and ideas. It had lots of pictures that sparked my creative side.
For my design portfolio I the 'Participate in the "Third Revolution" and 'be choosy.' I went to vans.com and created my own shoe. I thought it was really cool because it brought out the creative side in me. I choose for the be choosy, my shoes, because no matter what time, shoes will always be 'in,' even if they aren't stylish, you still need shoes.
One design idea that I did was read a design magazine. I read O Magazine. The Design of it was good because there were many pictures/ads. of outdoor design (backyard) and and indoor design (home design). The second activity that I participate in is be choosy. ReplyDeleteFor my design activities, I did the "Third Industrial Revolution" and "Put it on a table." My pointe shoes are very unique to me.
ReplyDeleteFor my two design activites I choose "Third Industrial Revoltion" and "Be Choosy".
ReplyDeleteFor my design portfolio I completed Put It on a Table and Be Choosy.
ReplyDeleteThe activities I choose were: Channel your annoyance and put it on the table.
ReplyDeleteThe item I’m putting on the table are my shoes.
ReplyDeleteFor my Design Profile the activities I choe were, "Read a design magazine" and "Participateinthe 'Third Industrial Revolution'".
ReplyDeleteFor my design portfolio I chose to participate in "Being Choosy" and "Read a Design Magazine". My sister and i recently went shopping. We were trying to decide what the "in" style at the moment, so we knew what to buy. After thinking, we decided to just get what we liked. Instead of following the latest trend we decided to get what we wanted.
ReplyDeleteThe design magazine I read was O.
