First Macbeth, because he is too in need of power and wants everything going his way. If he took it slow and didn't even murder Duncan in the first place then he might become king later on but not kill people in the process. Macbeth went downhill thinking of the murders he committed even if he didn't know it, that was bringing him down. Lady Macbeth also brings Macbeth to his downfall by building him up too much and trying to convince him he can commit a murder. The witches also build him up too much and tell him he can be great.
